Skin Cancer Removal
It is estimated that 2 out of every 3 Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer by the time they are 70.
Skin Cancer may occur when skin cells are damaged, for example by the overexposure of the skin to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.
Dr Eddie Kanan has a particular interest in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of skin lesions and Skin Cancer. Our team at EK Medical utilise high quality equipment, including Dermatoscopes, for the performance of skin cancer detection and the treatment of skin lesions.
There are three main types of Skin Cancer
- Basal cell carcinoma
- Squamous cell carcinoma
- Melanoma: the most dangerous form of skin cancer
Both basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are known as non-melanoma Skin Cancer.
How to identify a suspicious Skin Lesion
- A crusty, non-healing sore.
- Small lumps that are red, pale or pearly in colour.
- New spots, freckles or any moles changing in colour, thickness or shape over a period of weeks to months.
The sooner a Skin Cancer is identified, the better your chances of avoiding surgery, serious illness or death.

EK Medical asks that patients arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment. This time will be used to fill out all appropriate paperwork, especially for first time patients.Please note that this is a dedicated skin check appointment. For any other health issues, it is advised that a separate appointment is scheduled.

A staff member will prepare you for your skin check in our dedicated room.After a detailed skin check by your doctor, any current areas of concern will be addressed with a specific management plan.
Any questions or concerns can be addressed during this time. For your convenience, your doctor will add you to our database for regular routine skin-check reminders.

Minor procedures
Minor procedures such as skin lesion biopsies are possible during the skin check. However more complex procedures will require a separate appointment.
